As a Weight Loss Consultant, I help people deal with weight loss. Of course, if you’re going to lose weight, you need a scale to track your progress. I find that often my clients need new scales because the one they have is inaccurate. I always offer my insight on this important buying decision. This article will not discuss brand names; we only plan to give you considerations to help you make this important decision. Is the scale I have now good enough? There are 3 ways to tell if you will need a new scale. I will list them along with tips. 1.  Is your scale precise?a. Step on your scale multiple times and see if you can get the same measurement at least 3 times in a row.b. If you cannot get exactly the same measurement at least three times in a row, it is time for a new scale.2.  Is your scale accurate?a. Do you believe your scale has the correct measurement?b. It is difficult to know if your scale is correct or accurate but you can clue yourself in by weight in multiple display scales at a retail store and then going home and weighing on your scale.c. If your scale happens to old or worn, disagrees with several store models, and happens to be a low quality scale it is probably time for a new scale.3.  Can you read your scale without glasses and without guesswork?a. It’s morning, your vision is blurry and you want to take your weight for the day. You step on the scale, squint, strain; you still cannot tell what the numbers say. I think it’s time you consider another scale.b. Your scale display must be big enough and clear enough to help you not make mistakes with your weight. If the lines on the analogue display are so close together that you can’t tell if it says 180 or 182 pounds, I recommend you find a new scale. Find A New Scale If You Need One.So, you’re in the market for a new scale. Find your new one with the same logic you used to eliminate your old one. One more time. 1.  Do you believe the new scale will be precise?a. Check the model out at a retailer where you can step on it multiple times.b. Compare its ability to reproduce your measurement with other models.2.  Will the scale be accurate?a. Measure yourself on several different scales. Make a mental note of scales that disagree with other scales.b. Take your weight with and without your purse, keys, wallet, or other pocket items you may have that weight at least a half a pound. The measurement should be changing as you weight yourself with and without these items.3.  Will you be able to easily read the scale?a. I suggest you invest in a digital scale with a large display.b. The scale should be able to weigh you to at least the nearest half a pound.
